Ultra Far

Emerging from the ashes of Canadian band Property (2016-2021), Ultra Far is the new alternative project of St. John’s & Montreal-based Sarah Harris. Ultra Far is an experimentation of sound and genre: simultaneously electronic and organic; optimistic and wistful. This debut album, For Music is Alive and Well, builds on the spirit of Property’s signature pop/rock/folk sound while carving out a distinctive identity and capturing the fresh energy of this new chapter. Constructed from forgotten demos dating back to 2017, this album represents a collection of lasting ideas and the urge to create music. For Music is Alive and Well is a calling card for the era of genre-curious music fans.

Created out of demos spanning from 2019-2024 with one outlier from 2017, For Music and Alive and Well is less of a cohesive record and more of a collection of ideas, of songs, and the result of an urge to create music. The final versions of the songs were produced by Harris over the course of 2024 and feature performances from longtime collaborators between St. John’s and Montreal at various studios, living rooms, and basements, with a couple guitar solos recorded at a project studio in Los Angeles on a summer holiday.

To bring the songs together under one roof, Harris employed the services of Montreal via Edmonton producer Renny Wilson who works out of his private studio “Value Sound” in the north of Montreal. Following the tracking, Wilson mixed the record and prepared the final masters.

This release is Ultra Far’s debut album, and the first release of Harris’s record label Not So Gifted Records.
